E-scooter seized. |
||
|
On Tuesday 28th July Officers from Ketley and Oakengates Safer Neighbourhood Team seized an E-Scooter which had been seen riding around Oakengates.
The rider of the E-Scooter was reported for various offences including driving otherwise than in accordance with a license and having no insurance. The rider will now receive points on their provisional license along with a fine.
SNT regularly get complaints regarding the use of E-Scooters in the town, and as such we intend on dealing with individuals constantly flouting the law.
E-Scooters are legal to buy and own, however, are not legal to be used in public; for example on roads and pavements. They must only be used on private land with the landowners permission. Electric Scooters are currently classed as ‘powered transporters’ by the government and fall under the same laws and regulations that apply to all 'motor vehicles'.
Please consider the information given before purchasing an e-scooter for yourself or someone else. Should an adult allow their child (or any other person) to use an e-scooter in public they can also face the same penalties as the rider.
